The University of Brighton is home to over 21,000 students. With residential and teaching facilities spread across the city, providing support and improving accessibility for this large and disparate population is a key priority.
Infopoint’s convenient and user-friendly help points offered the University an ideal way to meet these needs and upgrade their facilities, all at no cost.
Infopoint installed a total of 16 help points across the University’s Grand Parade, Moulsecoomb and Falmer campuses and the Phoenix Halls of Residence.
Each of the help points provides a direct line to Brighton’s Streamline Taxis plus free calling to five additional numbers, selected via easy-to-use push buttons – National Traveline bus and train information, NHS 111, the FRANK drugs advice line, The Samaritans and 999 emergency services. Infopoint’s complete service, which includes phone line installation, all line rental and call charges, help point installation, backboards and signage, remote fault monitoring and ongoing equipment maintenance, was entirely funded by local private hire company Streamline Taxis.
The taxi operator is directly managed by Infopoint and, as part of their contract, they sign up to a clear service level agreement (SLA) covering all aspects of performance including speed of dispatch, fares, condition of vehicles and driver conduct. Dave Smith, Chairman of the Board at Streamline Taxis, comments: “As a company we have always worked hard to give students a safe and reliable service and we saw this as an opportunity not only to provide them with a link to us but also to other valuable services that they might need during their time at university.”
The new Infopoint units have proved popular with students. The University’s Telecoms Manager John Lewis says: “The help points provide a valuable service to students, staff and visitors to the university. They have been strategically placed in prominent areas to allow easy access, and with each listed service being provided free of charge, they offer real benefit to the caller.”
